I know how it is…you drive all night (or all day), and you finally arrive. You can’t wait to get to the beach and soak in some rays. As a child, my family vacationed at Myrtle Beach every year that I can remember, and then when I was married and had my kids, we also headed to Myrtle Beach. Twenty years ago, I moved here. Although many things changed over the years, some things remain the same — mainly our time on the sand at the water’s edge.

Over the years, we learned that the small things can make a big difference in whether or not you have comfortable and safe vacation. Here’s a list that I have made for you:

• Good sun screen. I’ve spent a few vacations where either me or a family member only had one good day out in the sun and the rest of the time had to be spent indoors because of the severe sunburn. It was absolutely miserable and actually took weeks to get back to normal. Use at least SPF 50, but not any higher as experts have indicated that a higher SPF tends to work against you in the long run, because it leaves you feeling like you can stay out in the sun much longer than you should. Apply the sunscreen every two hours because of perspiration and water exposure.
• Take a big blanket to the beach, not just beach towels. That way, you can use the towels for drying off and they won’t be full of sand. Otherwise, you’ll feel like you’re drying off with sandpaper. The blanket also won’t tend to blow away as easily as a towel. Set your heavier items on the corners of the blanket to hold it in place.
• Invest in a good beach umbrella. If you buy a cheap one, it won’t even last through the week. If you buy a good one, it will last summer after summer. Make sure the little ones in the group have ample time under the umbrella during a hot sunny beach day.
• Keep jugs of water in the car. Just reuse old plastic milk or water jugs, because all you’re going to use it for is to rinse off your feet, just before getting in the car. Even if the pier or short boardwalk you use as a beach access has a “rinse station,” you can bet the parking lot from there to your car also is full is sand and dirt and you’ll be much happier if you can wash you feet off and then immediately get into the car. Especially if you have a car load of kids.
• Binoculars – I don’t know about other beaches, but in Myrtle Beach, you can spot dolphins out in the water sometimes. Wouldn’t it be great to get a close-up view? There’s always some “thing” off in the distance in the water or in the air (parasailers?) that it would be nice to get a better view of. So don’t forget those binoculars. They don’t have to be expensive, but they’ll be a hit, I can assure you.

For pretty much everyone, there is a couple weeks a year people look forward to more than any other, and save all their days off work and spending money just to make this particular time extra special. The beaches and surrounding areas are beautiful and majestic and the locals are fun and welcoming to visitors to their gem on the gulf. Some may tell you Panama City is the place, but only for Spring Break and certainly not for a relaxing vacation with the family.

And of course we cannot neglect Miami and Orlando-Disney. Both cities offer vacations that would be impossible anywhere else in the world and offer experiences for a lifetime. Be it beach or amusement park, they must be on the list for any age or group of travelers because there is nowhere else like it.

Long considered one of the Best Beaches, Florida’s Clearwater Beach is perhaps the busiest on the gulf coast. It is 3 miles long and broad, and you can walk from one end to the other. As the Daytona Beach in Florida’s northeast coast runs at 23 miles long and 500 feet wide at low tide, there is plenty of room for all sunbathers on sunny days. During the summer Panama City Beach is host to numerous baseball and softball tournaments. PCB has an excellent facility called Frank Brown Park where most of the games are played. Once your team has decided to play in a tournament in PCB usually the next issue that comes up is where to stay.

You should book accommodations as soon as you know the dates your team will play in order to insure the best chance of getting what you want.

Panama City beach has a large variety of vacation rentals available to ball teams ranging from hotels to condos to houses as well as great shopping and wonderful restaurants. If you are wondering about where to stay maybe I can help. I know the most about Panama City Beach condos so that will be my focus.

Before starting to make reservations you should determine what rooms you need. Does each family want their own condo? Do some families plan to share a condo? If it works like the soccer tournaments that we went to with our kids there may also be an adult with several kids. Most beachfront condos have one, two or three bedrooms with fold out couches in the living area. Thus from four to eight people can stay in a unit. In addition most owners prefer to rent from Saturday to Saturday during the summer.

The tournament director may provide a list of Panama City condos for you to consider. If not, another way to find condos is on the web. I suggest searching using the phrase “Panama City Beach Condo”. The search will bring up a vast number of PCB condo buildings and individual condos for rent. There will also be numerous sponsored links for Panama City Beach vacation rentals. You can review different Panama City Beach Condo properties and pick a few that you like. Once you have selected a resort look up the resort web site to determine the rental agency. The two primary ways to book condos are through the resort’s rental agency or directly from owners. If you choose to use the rental agency, you should call and determine how to get the rooms you need.

The other way to reserve a condo is directly with the owner. You may be able to get better rates by renting directly from owners. The web site for the building you are interested in will probably provide owners that will rent their condos directly you. The web search mentioned above is also a nice resource to locate owners that rent condos directly to guests. You may be able to save some money but you will most likely have to deal with several owners to get the number of vacation rental condos that you need.

Finding Panama City Beach condo is as easy as that. PCB has become one of my favorite places to be and I am sure if you visit it will become one of your favorite places too. There are lots of things to do and see while you are away from the ball fields.

PCB is best known for sugary, white sand beaches and emerald green waters. Other attractions include water and amusement parks, a zoo, a marine park, a gray hound racetrack and poker room, miniature golf courses, go carts, jet skis, kayaking, parasailing and so much more! You can find it all in Panama City Beach.
